The long-awaited trailer for “Madame Web,” starring Dakota Johnson and Sydney Sweeney, and the first Marvel release of 2024, was released by Sony Pictures on Wednesday.
Johnson, who officially joins Sony’s Spider-Man Universe (SSU) with the movie, plays Cassandra Webb, a mutant with clairvoyant powers whose psychic abilities allow her to tap into the “spider world.”
The debut trailer for “Madame Web” is now available, giving a glimpse into what is said to be a stand-alone origin story of the titular character.
The film also features Sydney Sweeney, a rising young star, in the important role of Julia Carpenter, alias Spider-Woman, alongside Johnson.
Webb is “forced to confront revelations about her past and forges a relationship with three young women destined for powerful futures… if they can all survive a deadly present,” as the plot summary puts it.
Apart from the two, the lady web-slinger title has Celeste O’Connor as Mattie Franklin aka Spider-lady, Isabela Merced (Anya Corazon/Araña/Spider-Girl) and Tahar Rahim (Ezekiel Sims) together with Mike Epps, Adam Scott, Emma Roberts and Zosia Mamet.
Directed by S.J. Clarkson, based on a scenario from Burk Sharpless and Matt Sazama, ‘Madame Web’ is easily on track for the February 2024 release as Hollywood gets past the SAG-AFTRA strike.
