Sri Lanka lost the opportunity to host the ICC Men’s U19 Cricket World Cup 2024 as the ICC Board announced a new host nation in January.

The ICC Men’s U19 Cricket World Cup 2024 in January will now be hosted in South Africa after the ICC Board that convened today announced Sri Lanka would be replaced as hosts.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has recently suspended Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) for failing to fulfil its commitments as a Member by operating independently of government intervention in its day-to-day operations.

Following the board meeting, it was announced that Sri Lanka will be able to participate in both bilateral cricket and ICC events, but that the ICC will have control over the funding given to SLC. As a result, the U19 event has been relocated to the same country that hosted the Women’s U19 T20 World Cup earlier this year.

This forthcoming World Cup is the 15th iteration of the U19 men’s event; India won the last championship, held in the West Indies in 2022, for the fifth time.

With 15 other teams also gunning for the trophy, India will need to perform at their best if they want to win.

The traditional Group Stage has been replaced by a new Super Six Stage to decide the semi-finalists in the updated tournament structure.
