
KARACHI: The involvement of Sindh police in the smuggling of Iranian oil and non-customs-paid vehicles has been revealed.
According to reports, 28 police officers, including SHOs, have been suspended following revelations of police involvement in Iranian oil and non-custom paid vehicle smuggling at the direction of IG Sindh.
Officers from Jacobabad, Kashmur, Shikarpur, and Sukkur are among those who have been suspended.
The IG Sindh has formed a committee to investigate the incident, which will be led by Additional Inspector General (AIG) Imran Yaqub. The committee also includes DIG crime branch Amir Farooqui and SSP Dadu Abdul Khaliq Peerzada.
Earlier, Karachi police foiled an attempt to smuggle 31,000 litres of Iranian diesel by seizing a tanker near the Northern By-pass.
According to Senior Superintendent Police (SSP) East, a tanker was stopped at the Northern By-pass on a tip-off. The illegal shipment was discovered on a truck carrying 31,000 litres of Iranian diesel being smuggled to Karachi.
