Shehbaz Sharif announces contesting elections from Karachi's NA-242

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Shehbaz Sharif said on Friday that he would run for office in the upcoming general elections from Karachi’s NA-242 district.

It was in the last general election that he ran against Faisal Vawda, who was leader of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) at the time. Vawda beat him by a small majority.

The Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) said on December 23 that they had not agreed to move seats with the PML-N over the NA-242 area in district Keamari.

The party’s spokesperson said that all reports about the seat swap with the party run by Shehbaz Sharif in the mentioned constituency were “baseless.”

A spokesperson for the party also said that Mustafa Kamal, Senior Deputy Convenor of MQM-P, is their candidate for the post.

Shehbaz told a news conference in Karachi today that the public transport problem in Karachi would be fixed if PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif was elected on February 8. He said this after meeting with the leadership of the MQM-P today.
