Shehbaz asks Naqvi to hold fair and free elections

ISLAMABAD: Punjab temporary Chief Minister Mohsin Raza Naqvi called Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday, only days after taking oath as the country’s most populated region’s provincial executive.

During the meeting in the PM’s office, the premier congratulated Naqvi on his appointment as caretaker Chief Minister.

The Prime Minister further expressed hope that the newly elected Naqvi would take an active role in guaranteeing fair and transparent elections. Sharif expressed confidence that Naqvi will carry out his responsibilities in accordance with the Constitution.

Earlier, members of the Sharif family, including Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s son Suleman Shehbaz, congratulated Mohsin Naqvi on his appointment as Punjab’s temporary chief minister.
Naqvi, a media mogul and relative of former Punjab Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi, was one of two choices proposed by Punjab’s opposition leader Hamza Shehbaz.

Earlier this month, Pakistan’s top electoral body appointed Naqvi as Punjab’s temporary chief minister after political parties failed to agree on a candidate.
