Saqib Nisar didn’t work as CJP, but Imran Khan’s agent: PM Shehbaz

LONDON: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif accused former Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar of acting as an ‘agent’ for Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan on Saturday.

The prime minister told journalists in London that Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) supremo Nawaz Sharif was dismissed because of “false and baseless allegations.”

PM Shehbaz Sharif claimed that Imran Khan was imposed on the country through a ‘plot’ in 2018 and that the ‘incompetent’ PTI head gravely harmed the economy and the country.

“Saqib Nisar led the campaign to disqualify Nawaz Sharif on the basis of false and baseless allegations,” he claimed.

“Saqib Nisar was using the power of suo moto not in the public interest but to make Imran Khan successful,” he claimed, adding that Saqib Nisar was acting as an agent of Imran Khan rather than as the chief justice of Pakistan (CJP).

PM Shehbaz went on to say that the audio leaks have revealed all of the characters involved in the scheme. “There was no doubt after the audio leak that there was a conspiracy and collusion to bring Imran Khan to power by any means,” he added.

He also stated that the National Assembly (NA) had taken up the matter of audio leaks in order to conduct an investigation into Saqib Nisar and his son.

According to the constitution, elections for the National Assembly and provincial assemblies shall be held on the same day, according to the prime minister. “It is not possible to hold elections on different dates in different provinces because it will affect electoral results.”

The right of Parliament to legislate cannot be revoked since it is a constitutional and legal privilege of the legislative body, he noted.
