RO objects to Farooq Sattar’s nomination papers

KARACHI: Farooq Sattar, the head of the MQM, had his nomination papers for the NA-252 constituency by-election suspended by the returning officer.

On March 16, nationwide by-elections will be conducted for seats in the National Assembly, including nine in Karachi that has become vacant as a result of PTI members’ resignations.

Dr. Farooq Sattar of the MQM-Pakistan has submitted papers for NA-252 and NA-254.

Sources claim that Sattar’s NA-252 proposer is not a resident of the district, hence the RO withheld approval of his candidature while the nomination documents were being examined.

Farooq Sattar has requested permission from the RO to address the objection until 4:00 pm.

The Sindh Home Department has, in the meantime, issued instructions requiring protection to be provided for the returning officers running the by-elections for nine NA seats in Karachi.

The I.G. Sindh Police and D.G. Rangers have received a letter from the home department requesting their assistance in securing the ROs’ offices.

In addition to NA-241 (Korangi), NA-242 (Karachi East-I), NA-243 (Karachi East-II), NA-244 (Karachi East-III), NA-247 (Karachi South-II), NA-250 (Karachi West-III), NA-252 (Karachi West-V), NA-254 (Karachi Central-II), and NA-256, there will also be by-elections in these districts (Karachi Central-IV).
