KARACHI: PTI, Karachi’s nine National Assembly members have opted to attend the session.
Aftab Siddiqui, President of the Pakistan Peoples Party Karachi branch, has written a letter to Speaker of the National Assembly Raja Pervaiz Ashraf, informing him that the nine PTI MNAs from Karachi will attend the lower house session scheduled for April 26 (tomorrow).
“After the suspension of the Speaker’s order, we have the right to attend the assembly’s session,” the letter stated. “After the Sindh High Court’s ruling,” the letter states, “the Speaker’s notification is no longer required.”
“If we are prevented from attending the National Assembly session, we will protest and file legal action,” PTI sources added.
In March, the Sindh High Court (SHC) granted Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) temporary reprieve by suspending an ECP announcement accepting the resignations of the party’s nine MNAs.
SHC Chief Justice Ahmed Ali Shaikh presided over a two-member bench that heard the PTI legislators’ objections to their resignations being accepted.
The party’s MNAs resigned en masse in April last year, protesting the removal of former Prime Minister Imran Khan by a vote of no confidence in the National Assembly.
Later, PTI members from Karachi filed an appeal with the Supreme Court against the NA speaker accepting their resignations and holding by-elections on the vacated seats.
