PTA introduces latest biometric system for issuance of SIM cards

To prevent the selling of fake SIM cards, the telecom sector launched the Multi Finger Biometric Verification System (MBVS) which is an improved biometric verification system.

After a seamless switch to the new BVS, a ceremony was conducted at the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) Headquarters to sign the contract between NADRA and cellular mobile operators (CMOs).

Telecom firms will employ the Multi-Finger Biometric Verification System (MBVS) to confirm consumers’ identities prior to providing a new SIM card.
According to information released by Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), NADRA and CMOs have upgraded the BVS devices that are available through sale channels to comply with the new system’s standards.

The mechanism that randomly requests the imprints of two distinct fingers has taken over from the seller representative’s discretion over the choosing of fingers for verification reasons. The use of counterfeit fingerprints will be impossible when the new system is put into place.

The PTA chairman said that the new system, MBVS, will be a catalyst in limiting the sales of SIMs provided unlawfully while applauding the tireless work of CMOs and NADRA.
