Pochettino urges Chelsea to use FA Cup as route into Europe

Mauricio Pochettino has told Chelsea, who has been unreliable, to use the FA Cup as a way to get into Europe as they get ready for their third-round match against Preston on Saturday.

Pochettino’s team is 11 points behind fifth place in the Premier League and will have to work hard to make it to either the Champions League or the Europa League next season.

Pochettino knows that the FA Cup could give Chelsea much-needed comfort after a rough first half of the season.

Before League One team Preston came to Stamford Bridge, the Argentine knew that winning the FA Cup in May would get them into the Europa League.

They will also want to win the League Cup to get a backup spot in the Europa Conference League. Spurs will play Middlesbrough in the League Cup semi-final over two legs. The first leg will take place on Tuesday, and the second leg will be on January 23.

The Spurs manager said on Friday, “Of course (we can win the FA Cup).” Our goal is to get as far as possible in the Carabao Cup and the FA Cup.

“But we need to take things one step at a time, and Saturday is the first day.” We are not in Europe, so this is a very important game for us.

“We have a lot of room to grow and get better in the Premier League if we want to be in Europe next season.” We can do that with the FA Cup or the League Cup.

Pochettino said that there won’t be many changes to the Chelsea team that beat Luton 3-2 in their last Premier League game because they have a long FA Cup run coming up.
