ISLAMABAD: On the invitation of Qatar’s emir, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will pay a two-day official visit to Doha on March 5-6, according to a Foreign Office statement.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will visit Doha on March 5-6 to attend the 5th United Nations (UN) Conference on the Least Developed Countries, according to a Foreign Office statement (LDCs).
The conference, scheduled for March 5-9, 2023, will consider steps for accelerating sustainable development in the least Developed Countries, assisting them in making progress toward prosperity.
At the Conference, leaders will mobilize additional international assistance and action in support of LDCs, as well as agree on a renewed partnership between LDCs and their development partners.
The FO also stated that the prime minister will hold bilateral meetings and interactions with participating leaders and Heads of Delegation on the sidelines of the conference during his visit to Qatar.
Pakistan has taken the lead at UN platforms in amplifying the collective voice of the Global South in order to promote global sustainable development. During 2022, as Chair of the Group of 77 and China, Pakistan actively supported the efforts of the LDC Chair and Qatar in securing consensus adoption of the Doha Programme of Action for the Least Developed Countries and UN General Assembly endorsement,” the FO stated.
The participation of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in the Conference will demonstrate Pakistan’s support and solidarity with the Least Developed Countries in their pursuit of social progress and economic prosperity, it added.
According to the FO spokesperson, Pakistan supports revitalized global partnerships based on effective means of implementation, including through South-South Cooperation, in order to pursue the UN 2030 Development Agenda and achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
