PM Shehbaz to leave for Doha Today

ISLAMABAD: On the invitation of Qatar’s Amir, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will travel to Doha today to attend the 5th United Nations Conference on the Least Developed Countries (LDCs).

The conference, which runs from March 5 to 9, will look at ways to accelerate sustainable development in the Least Developed Countries and help them progress toward prosperity. At the conference, leaders will mobilize additional international assistance and action in support of LDCs, as well as agree on a renewed partnership between LDCs and their development partners.

On the sidelines of the conference in Doha, the prime minister will hold bilateral meetings with participating leaders and heads of delegation.

Pakistan has taken the lead at UN platforms in amplifying the collective voice of the Global South in order to promote global sustainable development.

During 2022, Pakistan actively supported the efforts of LDCs and Qatar to secure the adoption of the Doha Programme of Action for the Least Developed Countries by consensus and its endorsement by the UN General Assembly.
