PM Shehbaz calls an urgent economic team meeting

ISLAMABAD: To examine the nation’s present financial issues, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif called an urgent conference of economic experts on Sunday.The economic team will inform the prime minister of the discussions with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) on the ninth review and export industry difficulties, according to sources with knowledge of the situation.

The economic team will get crucial directives from the prime minister with the intention of boosting the economy. Ishaq Dar, the finance minister, Jameel Ahmed, the governor of the State Bank of Pakistan, and representatives from the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) are reportedly expected to attend the meeting.

Separately, the gas load management strategy will be explained to the prime minister during a meeting on energy in Lahore, which he will preside over. The energy team will update the prime minister on the delivery of gas to households and businesses.

The energy ministry will also inform the gathering about the discounted oil purchase from Russia. Musadik Malik, the minister of state for petroleum, announced earlier in the day that Pakistan will purchase 20,000 tons of gas from Azerbaijan over the course of the next two months to fulfill domestic demand.

The Russian Petroleum Minister will visit Pakistan next month to negotiate a deal for the purchase of Russian crude oil, the minister of foreign affairs announced in a statement. The state minister was certain that Russia will provide discounted crude oil exports to Pakistan. According to him, the government is working on the TAPI gas pipeline project to import 1300 billion MF of gas from Azerbaijan per year to address the country’s gas shortfall.
