LAHORE: Pervaiz Elahi is no longer the chief minister of Punjab, the interior minister Rana Sanaullah said during a press conference today. The Governor will de-notify the CM because he did not get the vote of confidence yesterday.
Rana Sanaullah stated that Parvez Elahi is no more the Chief Minister as per the constitution since the Governor of Punjab had requested the Chief Minister to take the vote of confidence. However, he did not take the vote of confidence yesterday. The act of notification is only a formality.
Yesterday, the speaker of the Punjab Assembly, Sibtain Khan, triggered a constitutional crisis by rejecting to summon the meeting when the governor ordered the chief minister to seek a vote of confidence from the House.
The Punjab Legislature’s speaker, Sibtain Khan, told the media on Tuesday that the legislature was already in session since it had simply been postponed rather than prorogued. As a result, I believe the governor’s convened meeting is unlawful.
