ISLAMABAD: A suicide vehicle bomb assault in sector I-10 of Islamabad resulted in at least one police officer’s death and several injuries on Friday.
Head Constable Adeel Hussain was announced as the casualty by the Islamabad Capital Police (ICT) official Twitter account. In the attack, at least three other police officers suffered injuries. The ICT’s quick response prevented a terrorist strike on the city, according to the police.
The police force in charge of the federal capital continued, saying that security in Islamabad “was on high alert and checking” of questionable people and vehicles was underway.
“During a check, police officers halted a suspicious car. As soon as the car came to a stop, the suicide bomber detonated himself “the ICT Police stated. The explosion location was surrounded by security and rescue personnel. With the use of CCTV cameras placed nearby, an inquiry into the occurrence has been opened.
Following the bombing, the police set up traffic diversions at the service road east of I-10/4 and gave civilians instructions on using the service road west of I-10/4 as a detour.
Security has also been increased across the Rawalpindi area, and all access and departure points to the twin cities are strictly monitored. For Friday prayers, rigorous security will be provided, according to directives from the authorities.
