In a post on Saturday, newly appointed Twitter CEO Linda Yaccarino stated that she is inspired by owner Elon Musk’s vision for a brighter future and is enthusiastic to help modernize the social media network.
t was Yaccarino’s first public statement since the news surfaced on Thursday that she was in talks to become Twitter’s next CEO. Musk, who has been CEO of Twitter since his $44 billion takeover last October, confirmed her hiring on Friday.
“[Musk’s] vision of a brighter future has long inspired me.” I’m thrilled to be a part of bringing this vision to Twitter and transforming the company together!” Yaccarino sent a tweet.
Yaccarino, who spent several years modernizing Comcast Corp’s (CMCSA.O) NBC Universal’s advertising division as an advertising executive, said she is committed to Twitter’s future and that user feedback is critical to building Twitter 2.0.
Yaccarino will take over a social media network that is struggling to recover from a drop in ad revenue and is burdened by significant debt.
Following Musk’s acquisition of Twitter, advertisers have deserted the platform, concerned that their advertising would appear next to improper content after the firm laid off roughly 80% of its employees. Musk admitted earlier this year that Twitter’s ad revenue had plummeted dramatically.
While Musk stated that Yaccarino will assist in the development of a “everything app,” which he previously stated may offer a variety of services such as peer-to-peer payments, his choice of an advertising veteran indicated that digital ads would remain a primary emphasis of the company.
Musk has long stated that he intends to recruit a new CEO for Twitter.
Musk, who is also the CEO of Tesla Inc (TSLA.O), said on Friday that bringing Yaccarino on board as Twitter’s new CEO will allow him to dedicate more time to Tesla.
