ISLAMABAD:
On the Supreme Court‘s direction, the federal government established a new joint investigation team (JIT) on Thursday to look into the death of journalist Arshad Sharif (SC).
The apex court was informed of the identities of the individuals who made up the panel. After the top court dismissed a JIT created previously by the Islamabad Police on Wednesday and ordered the formation of an “independent” panel to investigate the matter, the government has suggested fresh names for the team.
Following the filing of a first information report (FIR) detailing the journalist’s slaying pursuant to court orders, a five-member JIT was established to investigate Sharif’s murder on Wednesday. The SC, however, disapproved of the organization and requested the government to establish a new one.
