Maryam says PML-N not scared of elections

LAHORE: Senior Vice President of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has stated that her party is not afraid of elections and that it will win a majority of seats in Punjab.

Maryam, who was named the party’s chief organizer earlier this month, arrived at Allama Iqbal International Airport from Abu Dhabi at 3:30 p.m. after a brief flight delay.

After being acquitted in the Avenfield reference case, Nawaz Sharif’s daughter has been in London since October to spend time with her father.

To avoid any unexpected incidents, party workers in the provincial capital have set up camps outside the airport to welcome Maryam, with senior leaders also there.

Nawaz Sharif has requested Maryam to organize rallies and meetings in Punjab ahead of the next elections, alongside Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah. The newly appointed chief organizer has been tasked with “reorganizing” the party structure.

In a speech to PML-N workers in Lahore, the senior party leader reaffirmed that Nawaz would be among them shortly, a topic that has sparked much speculation.

“These [establishment] people repeatedly ousted Nawaz from the government. “You put him in power three times, but these people overturned his governments,” she explained.

PML-N leader described Sharif’s fall in the Panama leaks case on July 28, 2017, as a “national tragedy,” saying that Pakistan has not recovered since then.
Maryam swore that she would not rest until her party changed the course of the country and led it out of the continuing economic and political catastrophe.

“All the people who plotted a conspiracy against Nawaz must face the consequences for their deeds,” said PML-N senior vice president, who will now oversee the party’s efforts in the run-up to the provincial elections.

Maryam expressed gratitude to Nawaz, PML-N President and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, and the party workers for placing their trust in her leadership and entrusting her with new tasks.

Strategy and party cohesion

She referred to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan as “weeping” after dissolving his administrations in the two provinces.

Maryam believed that her party will win the next elections with a huge majority and Khan will have to “weep for the rest of his life.

When asked about her election strategy, PML-N leader stated that she would visit every district in Punjab beginning February 1.

According to journalists, individuals who have demonstrated commitment to the party will be given preference, and tickets will be distributed on merit. PML-N leader stated that she wished to reorganize and strengthen the party’s structure.

Maryam stated that PML-N is united, but there may be conflicts at the local level, which is usual in any political party.

She stated that PML-N Senior Vice President Shahid Khaqan Abbasi’s allegiance to the party spans three decades and cannot be questioned.

“A party is like a family, and it should be cohesive. The party should not have any personal agendas “She went on to say.

In a speech to party members, PML-N vice president praised Finance Minister Ishaq Dar for his efforts to set the country on the path of economic progress and prosperity.
