Lahore court bars police from arresting Usman Buzdar

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Friday directed the police not to arrest former Punjab Chief Minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Usman Buzdar.

Buzdar’s lawyer raised concern today in the LHC about his client’s alleged persecution by officials. Buzdar’s family members, including his wife and children, were there at home when the police surrounded the property, according to the lawyer.

The LHC directed the police not to arrest former Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar and directed the authorities to include Usman Buzdar in the probe.

The case was deferred by the LHC until Monday for the next hearing. Furthermore, the court has ordered that the case be referred to the Chief Justice’s larger bench.

Previously, Usman Buzdar obtained protective bail for corruption and other crimes.

Justice Tariq Nadeem of the Lahore High Court’s Bahawalpur bench heard the case in which the former Chief Minister of Punjab appeared in person for protective bail.

After hearing initial arguments from Buzdar’s counsel, the LHC Bahawalpur court granted him protective bail for seven days.

The former Punjab chief minister filed a petition with the LHC for corruption and other issues.

The former Chief Minister of Punjab is facing multiple corruption charges, including ‘assets beyond known sources of income’ and others.
