Bushra Bibi’s ex-husband, Khawar Maneka, has spoken out about their divorce and the third marriage of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan.
Maneka claimed that PTI chief Imran damaged his married life with Bushra Bibi under the guise of “peer muridi” while appearing on the Geo News Aaj Shahzeb Khanzada show on Monday.
In addition, he said, “Our marriage lasted for 28 years..we had a very happy married life and Imran Khan ruined it under the guise of peer-muridi.”
Maneka stated Bushra Bibi married Imran one and a half month after he divorced her in November 2017. But he denied knowing anything about it. I and my kids had no idea this marriage was happening, so when Geo and The News reported it, I lied and said it didn’t happen.
According to a March 2018 report in The News, Khan married Bushra Bibi in January 2018 while she was observing iddat (the period of time during which a woman goes into isolation after her husband dies or divorces her). However, pictures of the wedding were released on February 18 in an attempt to keep the marriage secret.
Maneka said Imran would visit his home without his “consent” and that he was unhappy about his ex-wife’s interactions with the PTI leader.
Maneka recalled that on one such occasion, he had to use domestic help to get the PTI leader out of the house.
How did Imran and Bushra hook up?
Maneka claimed that the former first lady’s sister Maryam Watto set up a meeting between the PTI head and his now-wife during the PTI’s protest sit-in in Islamabad.
According to Maneka, the PTI chief and Bushra Bibi began meeting regularly in Islamabad after their initial meeting.
“My mother used to say that Imran Khan is not a good person, don’t let him come in the house.” Maneka revealed that his ex-wife had a secret phone line to Imran set up by Farah Gogi at Imran’s request, allowing them to have late-night conversations.
He claimed that Bushra Bibi would secretly visit the PTI leader at his home in Islamabad’s Bani Gala neighbourhood.
Maneka alleged that Bushra Bibi “separated from me” and moved to Pakpattan, a city in Punjab, six months before the wedding. Despite his pleas, Bushra Bibi remained in her hometown.
Maneka claims that Farah Gogi, using the pseudonym of Bushra Bibi’s nickname “Pinky,” sent him a text message demanding a divorce.
I asked Bushra straight out if she wanted to have a divorce. He said, “She bowed her head and didn’t respond.”
According to Maneka, on November 14, 2017, he had Farah Gogi deliver divorce papers to her former spouse.
Later, he said that Farah Gogi and Zulfi Bukhari, a close adviser of the PTI head, had asked him to alter the divorce papers’ effective date and be silent because “Imran Khan wants to become the prime minister.”
