Justice Qazi Faez Isa ‘skips’ dinner hosted by CJP Bandial

ISLAMABAD: Justice Qazi Faez Isa, Pakistan’s most senior judge after Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial,’skipped’ a luncheon held by the top judge in celebration of the Supreme Court judges.

There has been a schism in the Supreme Court, which has been widely publicized in the media, particularly after CJP Bandial initiated suo motu proceedings to hold elections for the Punjab Assembly.

According to sources, all 14 judges of the Supreme Court attended the meal, with the exception of Justice Qazi Faez Isa, the highest-ranking judge after the CJP.

After each Eid, Pakistan’s Chief Justice, Justice Umar Ata Bandial, would host a dinner reception to honour his fellow judges.

According to sources, Justice Isa may have decided not to attend the dinner because the CJP has already reserved his decision on the government’s request to drop its curative review petition against an apex court order rejecting a presidential reference against the aforementioned judge.

Earlier this month, Justice Isa clarified his position on attending a special national constitutional convention at the National Assembly (NA) to commemorate Pakistan’s Constitution’s golden jubilee.

Prior to accepting the invitation, Justice Isa said, he inquired about political speeches and was assured that only the Constitution and its creation would be discussed, according to a statement issued by the senior SC judge.
