ISPR condemns Imran Khan’s ‘irresponsible remarks’ against military officer

RAWALPINDI: The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) has severely denounced Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan’s ‘very reckless remarks’ against a senior officer of the Pakistan Army.

The military’s communications wing stated today that Imran Khan made “highly irresponsible and baseless allegations” against a serving senior military official “without any evidence.”

“These fabricated and malicious allegations are extremely unfortunate, deplorable, and unacceptably unacceptable,” the ISPR said.

It stated that there has been a “consistent pattern for the last year in which military and intelligence agency officials have been targeted with insinuations and sensational propaganda for the furtherance of political objectives.”

“We urge the political leader [Imran Khan] to pursue legal avenues and refrain from making false allegations,” the military’s media wing said.

The ISPR concluded by stating that the institution reserves the right to pursue legal action in the event of clearly false and malicious remarks and propaganda.

PM Shehbaz Sharif had earlier chastised Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan for maligning and threatening’ the Pakistan Army.

In a tweet, the prime minister condemned Imran Khan for ‘routinely maligning and threatening Pakistan Army and Intelligence Agency’ for petty political advantage.

“Imran’s levelling of allegations against Gen Faisal Naseer and officers of our Intelligence Agency without any proof cannot and will not be tolerated,” he said.
