PTI Chairman Imran Khan welcomed the new army General Asim Munir and Chairman Joint Chief of Army Staff Committee (CJCSC) General Sahir Shamshad Mirza on taking office and stated his “hope that the new military leadership will try to solve the present trust deficit.”

General Munir, the new commander of the Pakistan Army, took over on Tuesday during a ceremony marking the transition of command. On Sunday, Gen. Mirza assumed leadership as the CJCSC.

Khan sent his congratulations to the two military leaders on Twitter.

“We are hopeful that the new military leadership will seek to close the trust gap between the country and the state that has grown over the past eight months. The people of the state are what give it strength “The former Prime Minister wrote.

He included a Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah quotation about the “duty” of the armed forces.

Remember that you are the people’s servants and that we, the civilians, establish national policy; it is your responsibility to do the duties to which you have been assigned. This was the message printed on an image that Khan tweeted.
