Imran Khan, a former prime minister and the head of the PTI, charged former army chief General (retd) Qamar Javed Bajwa on Sunday with providing existing leaders “NRO-2,” an amnesty given by previous military ruler Gen (retd) Pervez Musharraf.
He stated during a news conference in Lahore, “The first NRO was provided by General Musharraf and the second one was given by the one who was in charge. Imran criticized the punishment being meted out to Senator Azam Swati, an imprisoned PTI politician, because of his inflammatory remarks against military leaders and state institutions.
“Just because he said General Bajwa handed NRO to criminals, Azam Swati was detained,” “Gen Bajwa delivered NRO-2, and entire Pakistan knows it,” he said.”Just because he said General Bajwa handed NRO to criminals, Azam Swati was detained,” “Gen Bajwa delivered NRO-2, and entire Pakistan knows it,” he said.
A sitting senator cannot be “tortured or stripped naked” in civilized cultures, according to Imran, simply for expressing his viewpoint. He said, “You may refute his [Swati’s] assertion. Imran claimed, in response to his party’s call for early elections, that unless the current administration was removed from office, the nation’s economic situation would only get worse.
He said, “The country is on the verge of economic collapse as debts are mounting and exports, remittances, and foreign investments are falling.”I enquire, “My institution, aren’t you worried about the direction the country is taking?”
The PTI leader said he had not pushed for his party to hold elections. “Even if elections are held on schedule, I am confident that my party would prevail but I worry that the delay in the polls would make the economic crisis worse.
Imran asserted that political stability is a prerequisite for economic stability. “They [the current authorities] have no plan. Since they are aware that they cannot win elections, their primary goal is to resolve their corruption charges.
Imran said that the PML-N and other affiliated parties lost by-elections despite employing the whole state apparatus. Imran stated that “one by one all thieves would receive relief in corruption cases and get themselves exonerated from corruption allegations” in reference to the return of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s son Suleman Shehbaz.
