IHC issues notice to Islamabad IG over Shehryar Afridi’s re-arrest

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has issued a notice to the Inspector General of Police, Islamabad, in response to a contempt petition involving the re-arrest of PTI leader Shehryar Afridi despite court orders forbidding such conduct.

On May 30, Afridi was re-arrested shortly after being released from a Rawalpindi prison.

The judge raised concerns during the hearing over the state counsel’s failure to produce Afridi before the court. The court directed the counsel to respond to this subject by tomorrow.

Sher Afzal Marwat, Afridi’s lawyer, told the court that his client was being held in a “death cell.”

Justice Arbab Muhammad Zahir voiced worry over court decisions not being followed.

“This is a contempt of court case, and the next hearing is tomorrow,” the judge explained.
