ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Vice Chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi was ordered released immediately by the Islamabad High Court on Thursday.
After hearing the plea, IHC Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb ruled that Qureshi’s arrest under the 3 MPO (Maintenance of Public Order) was “illegal.”
In another hearing, the IHC ordered the release of PTI politician and former state minister Shehryar Khan Afridi’s wife.
Following the arrest of ex-prime minister Imran Khan on May 9, Shah Mahmood Qureshi was arrested under the Maintenance of Public Order Ordinance, 1960.
On May 11, the former foreign minister was apprehended when police stormed the Gilgit-Baltistan House in Islamabad under Section 3 (3MPO).
It is worth noting that the police initiated a crackdown on Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) officials and workers in the aftermath of the ‘violent rallies’ staged following the arrest of party chairman Imran Khan in the Al-Qadir Trust Case.
Shireen Mazari, the core leader of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), was arrested again yesterday at her home in Islamabad.
Shireen Mazari’s daughter, Iman Mazari, reported in a tweet that police had taken her mother again. Despite court orders, a large number of police officers arrived at PTI leader Shireen Mazari’s home to arrest her.
