ICC nominated Rizwan for Men’s T20I cricketer of the year

DUBAI: For the second year in a row, Mohammad Rizwan has been nominated for the ICC Men’s T20I Cricketer of the Year 2022 title.

Rizwan, who won the coveted award in 2021, has been nominated again this year for his outstanding performance in T20Is, along with India’s Suryakumar Yadav, Zimbabwe’s Sikander Raza, and England’s Sam Curran.

The wicket batsman, who briefly held the No. 1 spot in the T20I batter’s list, earned 996 runs, nine catches, and three stumpings in 25 matches in 2022.

“The wicket-keeper batsman scored 996 runs this year, building on his record-breaking year in T20Is in 2021. Only Suryakumar Yadav had more runs in men’s T20Is this year,” claimed an ICC media release on Thursday.

“Rizwan’s greatest came in the build-up to the T20 World Cup, when he struck an unbeaten 88 off 51 balls as Pakistan chased down a 200-plus mark without losing a wicket,” it continued.

It is worth noting that Rizwan won the ICC Player of the Month title for September 2022 as a result of his outstanding performance in the Asia Cup and seven-match home series against England. In the ten matches he played that month, he scored seven fifties.

Rizwan ended the Asia Cup 2023 as the tournament’s best run-scorer with 281 runs after scoring 10 fifties in the previous year’s shortest version.
