Govt to re-launch laptop scheme for youth: SAPM

ISLAMABAD: Shaza Fatima Khawaja, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister (SAPM) on Youth Affairs, revealed on Friday that the federal government will relaunch a laptop scheme for youth this year under the Prime Minister Youth Program.

She told the reporters that 100,000 laptops will be distributed to youth this year as part of the initiative.

She expressed regret that the previous government had put an end to this scheme, but she pointed out that laptops provided under the Prime Minister Youth Program allowed youth to continue their study and occupations during COVID-19.

Shaza Fatima went on to say that the government has also launched the National Innovation Award to boost startup culture among young people.

PM Shehbaz Sharif said in February this year that the federal government would donate 100,000 laptop computers to high achiever youths across the country based only on merit.

Those who had previously criticized the laptop initiative should have seen how the laptops helped the youth earn a living, particularly during the COVID pandemic.

“I am giving a laptop, not a Kalashnikov,” the prime minister stated while presenting cheques to loan recipients and unveiling a Freelancer Card.
