Gas crisis in Karachi increases during Ramazan

KARACHI: The gas crisis in Karachi has worsened during Ramazan month, following the threat of power outages.

According to reports, several areas of Karachi are experiencing low gas pressure, while others are without gas supply during Ramazan. The gas crisis was exacerbated when a technical fault developed at the Sawan gas field, resulting in a 44 mmcfd drop in gas supply.

North Karachi, North Nazimabad, Gulistan-e-Johar, Orangi Town, Korangi, Landhi, Baldia Town, Qaimkhani Colony, Liaquatabad, Hijrat Colony, Garden, DHA, Saddar, Kathore, Scheme 33, and other areas are affected.

According to sources, Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) is facing a gas supply shortage of more than 300 mmcfd.

Due to gas load-shedding, residents of Baloch and Jahangir Road staged a protest on the arterial roads, causing traffic from Guru Mandir to Teen Hatti to be disrupted.

The protestors claimed that they have been subjected to continuous gas outages since the start of Ramazan, as well as difficulties during Sehri and Iftar times. Protesters demanded that the area’s gas supply be restored immediately.
