Fire erupts at Karachi’s new Challi, kills one

KARACHI: A fire broke out at a multi-story building in Karachi’s business district, New Challi, killing at least one person and rendering three others unconscious.

The fire started on the 9th floor of R.K.Square in New Challi generator market and spread to other floors, killing one person by suffocation and rendering three others unconscious by smoke and transferring them to the hospital for medical attention.

“Fifteen people have been rescued, and a rescue operation to move people trapped in the building to safety is underway,” rescue officials said.

According to reports, six fire tenders were involved in the building’s firefighting operation. A snorkel has also been deployed at the fire scene to aid in the rescue and relief efforts.

Last year, five siblings were burned to death in a fire that destroyed some huts in Karachi’s Gulshan-e-Iqbal neighborhood. The fire destroyed five huts.

The fire started as a result of an electrical short circuit, killing five minors who were in a hut at the time.

The victims, aged 8 to 12, were identified as Saima, Tayyaba, Farhan, and Kamran.
