FIA once again Took Swati into Custody in the controversial tweet

ISLAMABAD: Azam Swati, a senator for the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), was arrested for the second time early on Sunday morning when the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Cyber Crime Wing Islamabad team conducted a raid at his farmhouse. Swati is suspected of tweeting disparaging remarks about senior military officials.

The cybercrime wing filed a first information report (FIR) against Swati on November 26 in response to recent “controversial” tweets that were reportedly directed at government officials, including the chief of the army staff.

According to the investigation, the PTI leader began a “very offensive campaign of frightening tweets” against institutions, including the army chief, “with malafide intentions and ulterior motivations.”

As the PTI leader had accused the official of torturing him during his last detention in October, Swati remarked to the FIA team during the arrest, “FIA officer Ayaz is my culprit, I don’t want to see him here.”

The senator said that he is not running away and that he did not travel to Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa after delivering his address at the party’s gathering in Rawalpindi a day earlier (K-P).

He said that his party has a stance itself in support of the rule of law and against persecution.

The senator called on people all over the world to protest for the rule of law during his speech and said that cops receive orders straight from the COAS.

Swati stated that because the proper procedure was followed during his detention today, he is prepared to go to the police station by himself.

The senator declared that “torture and undressing after the arrest are immoral,” alluding to his “custodial abuse” during the earlier detention.
