As the opposition in the provincial legislature discussed tactics to topple the PTI-PMLQ-led coalition government in the state, Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi on Thursday told Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan that he would stay by his side.
At Khan’s Lahore mansion at Zaman Park, Chief Minister of Punjab Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi and his son Chaudhry Moonis Elahi met with Khan. Pervez Khattak, a former chief minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Chaudhry Hussain Elahi, a member of parliament for the PML-Q, and Hafiz Farhat Abbas, an adviser to Imran Khan, was also present at the meeting.
Khan, who last week put off his long march to Islamabad, has declared his resignation from all national assemblies, including those in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The dissolution of the legislatures in both provinces has been authorized by the party leadership, according to PTI Senior Vice President Fawad Chaudhry, but the final decision will be taken following additional deliberations. Despite stating that it would not back down from a challenge, the opposition PML-N and the associated parties—insisted that the country would not benefit from early elections.
The Punjab chief minister reiterated his devotion at the meeting with Khan and emphasized that he “owed” the former prime minister the Punjab Assembly. Elahi declared he would obey Khan’s order to dissolve the assembly without “hesitating for a second” and that he would continue to support all of the PTI leader’s choices.
