Fawad Chaudhry’s brother pleaded with Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP), Justice Umar Ata Bandial, to take suo motu notice of his brother’s arrest on sedition charges for allegedly threatening Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), its members, and their families. Chaudhry is senior vice president of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
The letter comes after PTI leader was placed in detention in a sedition case, which has drawn harsh criticism from both his party and top government officials. Faisal expressed worry that Fawad would endure physical abuse while being held by the police.
Faisal Chaudhry, brother of PTI politician, claimed in a letter to chief justice that Fawad’s detention in Lahore was unconstitutional and carried out as if he were a terrorist.
According to Faisal, former federal minister needed the help of the highest court to get justice. Faisal added that arrest warrant for Fawad had been ignored by Lahore High Court.
“Fawad Chaudhry was to appear before the court, as LHC had repeatedly ordered the police to do. However, the world witnessed how legal orders were mocked, “said letter. As they shackled Fawad and hurried him away with his face covered by a cloth, he claimed that influential figures within the state did not pay attention to anyone.
According to letter, Fawad Chaudhry was turned over to Islamabad Police rather than appearing before Lahore High Court. He claimed that after being placed in judicial custody, Fawad Chaudhry was once more given to police under physical remand.
He expressed concern that Fawad would experience physical abuse, as had happened on previous occasions. He said, “I am writing to you as a lawyer regarding the unlawful detention of another lawyer.
Faisal asked the chief justice to review both his appeal and the letter that Fawad Chaudhry had attached to it.
