BJP planning another Pulwama-style staged incident: Banerjee

NEW DELHI: Mamata Banerjee, the chief minister of India’s West Bengal state, alleged on Saturday that the Hindu nationalist Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was organizing another staged attack similar to the one that killed dozens of paramilitary personnel in India-held Kashmir in February 2019.

During a rally in Kolkata, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee called the Pulwama terror attack “fake and staged,” claiming that the Narendra Modi-led BJP was planning a similar tragedy.

“They [the BJP] intend to stage fake, staged videos like in movies.” They plan to perform plays, film videos, and disparage Bengal. This is their plot,” she claimed, holding Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi ‘responsible’ for the incident.

An ambush on Indian paramilitary troops in IIOJK killed around 40 soldiers in February 2019. India accused Pakistan of carrying out the strike, which Islamabad denied.

Earlier this month, Satyapal Malik, the governor at the time of the Pulwama attack, said that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi withheld critical information regarding the attack from the public.

Malik said that the Indian prime minister tried to keep him quiet about the security flaws that led to the terror attack so that they could profit from it by blaming Pakistan.

He stated that the attack on the CRPF convoy in Pulwama was the consequence of “incompetence” and “carelessness” on the part of the Indian system, notably the CRPF and the home ministry.

Malik further explained how the CRPF requested planes to carry its men but was denied by the home ministry.

He further stated that he mentioned all of these flaws explicitly when Modi contacted him from outside Corbett Park shortly after the attack. He claimed the prime minister instructed him to be silent and not notify anyone.
