Balochistan set to launch health card

QUETTA: The much-touted Balochistan Health Card Programme has been added to the agenda of the next cabinet meeting for approval.

Baloch people will be able to receive free medical treatment because the government has decided to accept the health card idea at the next cabinet meeting. The government will issue health cards to every family as part of the scheme to assure universal medical coverage.

In an interview, a local citizen, Baz Gul Kakar, encouraged the provincial government to initiate the programme as soon as possible and provide the best healthcare facilities to the impoverished and flood-affected people in public and private sector hospitals.

The present torrential rains and huge floods have disrupted people’s daily lives, he said, adding that many suffer from chronic conditions and are unable to receive free care in public and private sector facilities. Previously, the provincial administration agreed to create the Balochistan Health Card service at a cost of Rs5.914 billion in order to give health insurance coverage of Rs1 million to 1.875 million families.
