Captain Babar Azam breaks the record of Ricky Ponting

Babar Azam scored a spectacular Test century against New Zealand in the first inning of the inaugural Test at the National Stadium in Karachi, continuing his scorching success in red-ball cricket.

With this, Babar Azam broke the mark set by former Australian captain Ricky Ponting for the most fifty-plus scores in a calendar year while serving as captain across all formats. Ricky Ponting scored 24 50-plus scores in 2005, compared to Babar’s 25 50-plus scores.

In addition, the talented right-handed batsman surpassed former England Test captain Joe Root, who has 1098 runs from 15 games at an average of 45.75, to take the title of batsman with the most Test runs in the calendar year.
