
The most awaited decision in the current political climate of the nation was made on Thursday when President Dr. Arif Alvi signed the summary that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had written to name Lt. Gen. Asim Munir as the new army head of Pakistan.
Lt Gen Munir in 1986 was commissioned in the 23rd frontier force regiment. He passed out from the Mangla 17 Officers Training and received the sword of honor. He is served at General Headquarters as the quartermaster general at the moment.
The army chief-designate received his education at the National Defense University in Islamabad, the Malaysian Armed Forces College in Kuala Lumpur, the Command and Staff College in Quetta, and the Fuji School in Japan.
The lieutenant general also acquires a M Phil from National Defense University in public policy and strategic security management.
The quartermaster general also held positions as head of staff of the Mangla corps, general staff officer, grade-2, and brigade major of a deployed infantry brigade in Kel. He was also a directing staff at the Command and Staff College in Quetta.
Lt Gen Munir served as the regimental commander of the 23rd Frontier Force Regiment, Infantry Brigade, as well as the corps commander of the 30th Corps in Gujranwala’s Northern Areas. The new army commander has also held the position of Military Intelligence Director General (MI).
Lt Gen Munir was appointed as the Inter-Services Intelligence Director-General in 2018. (ISI). After that, he served for two years as the corps commander in Gujranwala. He was assigned to his current position at the GHQ after serving as the corps commander in Gujranwala.
Lt Gen Munir will be the first army commander to have served as both the MI and ISI director. He will also get the Sword of Honor as the first army commander. The upcoming army chief enjoys travelling, reading, and athletics. Additionally, a Hafiz e Quran, Lt. Gen. Munir.
